Food. Satisfation. Mummy

Tonite was a great great night. I love the feeling of getting involved 'working' with a group of food lovers to work out tonight's dinner with pasar malam theme. I know they love food just like my family do, no matter how much it costs, how far it goes, they just insisted on buying all the necessary materials needed to come out with delicious food... end up all the taste of 'Malaysia' I miss so much during these 2 months have just been cured with plenty of food... pan mee, sambal udang kering, popia, grilled chicken wings and the lovely ABC soup.

The food are superb. The people are even awesome. Jasmine, Sieu Kit, Fung Yee, Chin Sui, King Fung, Samantha, Yi Ting, Edmund.... all of them are so committed on preparing the dinner and put in their heart, somemore they are really well-experienced in cooking which I have very much to learn from them.

Food ready to serve!!!!

Food do give me satisfaction and cure misses for home food. But someone keep appearing on my mind tonight is my mummy, starting from the flaming heat feels on my fingers when cutting chilies for sambal. I never wonder the heat of chilies can be so immense when you dip your fingers among the chilies for about 20 minutes. It's totally a different pain from the usual  pain I feel when cutting one or two for serving food, coz the heat of chilies fade off in minutes. Not like now, hours, and still it's pain like hell, like dipping fingers into a hot pot of oil!!!

My mum should have feel this pain hundred times, since she will prepare the home blend sambal very often to keep her daughter, me, a happy appetite and will eat more so that I'm not hungry. Especially her sambal eggs, a typical dish I fancy most that will appear on the dining table everytime I go back from KL. I remembered she complained about the chilies heat which make her fingers like burning once, but I do not take it seriously as I thought it was just a small case and will be ok in minutes. Apparently she stopped mumbling not becuase she doesn't feel it anymore, just that she endured it with her motherly nature... hmm.. only being remorseful when I finally feel the same pain... really not a good daughter...

Mummy, I miss you...♥♥♥♥

I love B & J's

My lovely B & J's

Happily wait for the delicious dessert I bought home today - Ben & Jerry's ice cream from Sainsbury's, which are now in promotion: Buy ONE free ONE. Though the desserts cost me £ 4.15 for the 2 pints, which is almost half of my weekely expenses, surprisingly I did not hesitate much when take them straight to the counter. After taking spoonful where they melt and taste inside my mouth, I know they worth more than the virtue of thrifty - the happiness they bring =D

Superb delicacies attract me to know more about them... and what I learnt from the beautiful and creative website of Ben & Jerry's  instead of their variety of ice cream choices, is the story where it begins to drive dessert lovers crave for it by 2 young people who founded it. I especially love this from Jerry Cohen: 'If it's not fun, why do it?' Albeit in reality not many people can own a career along with his interest, the B & J's gives inspiration and hopes for those who have big dreams, to plan.

Here comes some pictures from the Ben & Jerry's webpage which I like particularly...
*wink* XD

'Their' Story

I wish to have a fridge like this forever!!!

1st attempt: "Phish food" - Sweet chocolate with yogurt marshmallow, caramel and chocolately shaped fish
(Love the just-nice sweetness of fishies)

2nd attempt: Chocolate Fudge Brownie - Yogurt with chocolate brownies chunks
(The large chunkies taste good when you chew and chew and chew and chew.....)

Trying out very sooooon: Half Baked - Chocolate and vanila ice cream in fudge brownies and chunks of chocolate chips cookies dough

=) Hopefully will be able to try out the following soon before leaving UK, best if I could get them in promotion...

***Warning: Consider the sweetness you can bear... since it is a desserts!!!

Jaffa Cakes

My 7th piece of Jaffa before it was eaten... XD

My tongue always demands for titbits whenever mind is working on pieces of work... oh, actually neither nor not I'm working on assignment, probably it's just an excuse to satisfy the lovely nibbler inside me... my favo food brings lots of happiness to me, every day and moment they do...

Some minutes before I started here, I opened my very first pack of Jaffa Cakes bought from 99 pence shop. There are 24 Jaffa Cakes inside two separate packages. Ha... it surprised me at the first bite. Chocolate coating, soft sour jelly of orange flavour.. then the next was a biscuit-like texture 'cake' at bottom. I paused for a moment to examine the half-bitten cake, it looks fine, tastes.... abit weird... hahaha.. cause I'm sort of doubting the comby of orange jelly in chocolate coated cake. After a little searching from Google, the background story of Jaffa seems more interesting than just knowing what it is called.

Some information to share about:
Source: Adapted from Wikipedia

Description:

  • Jaffa Cakes are circular (found match with purchased!)

  • 54 mm (2+1⁄2 inches) in diameter (found match with purchased!)

  • Have three layers: a fatless sponge cake base, a layer of orange flavoured jelly and a coating of dark chocolate. (found match with purchased!)
*Although Jaffa Cakes are mainly orange flavour, various limited edition flavours have been available, such as lemon-lime, strawberry and blackcurrant.

Origins:

  • Jaffa Cakes are a biscuit-like cake in the United Kingdom and Ireland. McVitie and Price introduced the Jaffa Cake in 1927. (no wonder it's sold EVERYWHERE here in Liverpool!)

  • Its creation is largely credited to John Langlands, a director of McVitie and Price.

Cakes or Biscuit?

Confusion between CAKE and BISCUIT

  • Under UK law, no Value Added Tax (VAT) is charged on biscuits and cakes — they are "zero rated".

  • Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are subject to VAT.

  • McVities classed its Jaffa Cakes as cakes.

  • But in 1991, this was challenged by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and the case ended up before the courts.

  • This may have been because Jaffa Cakes are about the same size and shape as some types of biscuit, and particularly because they are commonly eaten alongside, or instead of, traditional biscuits. The court asked "What criteria should be used to class something as a cake?"
Criteria to classify as CAKE or BISCUIT

  • McVities defended its classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes, producing a 12" (30 cm) Jaffa Cake to illustrate that its Jaffa Cakes were simply miniature cakes.

  • McVities argued that a distinction between cakes and biscuits is, among other things, that biscuits would normally be expected to go soft when stale, whereas cakes would normally be expected to go hard.

  • It was demonstrated to the Tribunal that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale.

  • Other factors taken into account by the Chairman, Potter QC, included the name, ingredients, texture, size, packaging, marketing, presentation, appeal to children, and manufacturing process.

  • Potter ruled that the Jaffa Cake is a cake.

  • McVities therefore won the case and VAT is not paid on Jaffa Cakes.
Is it interesting to follow the story behind which Jaffa is pronounced as CAKE officially?! It tooks the McVities to go through such a dangerous yet challenging process to proudly make JAFFA something memorable and valuable to the company. It's not only about the tax issue, JAFFA will always be the motivator to remind people about how endeavour will make life remarkable.

Overall, it tastes better and better for every next Jaffa...credits for its story probably! =D

McCafe

Looking at the cup clearer, it indicates McCafe... A name seldom heard in Malaysia but seems so familiar because of the trademark of 'Mc'...Yeah! This the freshly brewed coffee from McDonald's breakfast set which its cup design has been changed recently, with additional wording of McCafe...

McDonald's has been the best choice for most of our happy tummy treat since we are young, so it is really anticipating for McCafe to land in Malaysia soon...Yee-haw!!!

Roti Babi @ Yut Kee

It's Sunday noon. A friend of my sis rang up suggesting a peculiar but famous food named roti babi as our brunch. It seems so awkward to hear a food with 'babi' in Malaysia as we seldom use it in public to avoid unnecessary confrontation. We searched for google maps and there we went - a Hainanese restaurant located at Jalan Dang Wangi called Yut Kee.

It was a very traditional restaurant established since 1928. Having seats near the wall, I saw plenty of news coverage by local papers and magazines that gave good comments and introduction to this restaurant. Moreover, to my surprise, when I looked at a picture snapped 10 years ago, the layout and interior of restaurant have been preserved the same till today, even the location of seats where I was having!!!

Food came in minutes...really in minutes as the workers were so efficient and polite. The following were some food we tried out...

Kaya swiss roll: Soft and creamy. Kaya is rich with egg aroma and the roll tastes less artificial.

Belacan fried rice: Spicccyyy!!! It is my most favourite one with strong belacan savor.

Roasted char siew fan: Juicy char siew... be aware of its big portion!!!

Roti babi: Bread stuffed with salty minced pork with lots of onions. If you are a pork & french toast lover, you'll definitely thrilled with this combination. Hainanese pork chop: Piece of fried pork chop with traditional brown gravy. Juicy meat, recommended even for those who dislike rough and dry meat texture.

Mouth-watering? Cracking head for what to eat? Hmmm... here is a choice for you!
